Fat Boy Self Bailing White Water Raft
The Fat Boy Self Bailing white water raft encorporates some of the great design features of our Dragonfly raft series in a small 5 person raft design. The bottom of the raft has the same tunnel shape as the Dragon Fly, and the same removable drop stitch floor panel. These features give the boat great tracking, acceleration, hull speed, and flotation. In addition we have added the foot thwart concept that works so well on our Culebra Grande, and our Outfitter Culebra models . There is no need to glue any foot cups in because the foot thwarts work so much better, and hold paddlers in so much better. Of particular interest are the end foot thwarts that help keep the captain in the boat.

Specfications:
• The Fat Boy is a self bailing white water raft:
• All welded (not glued) construction
• Removable Drop stitch floor
• Stragetically placed foot cross thwarts
• 35 oz pvc coated polyester
• 42 oz double wear layer in bottom of main tube
• 4 main sections, 1 floor, and 3 foot thwart sections- Total8 inflated sections
• 120 inches long, 65 inches wide, 19.5 inch diameter tubes, and 72 lbs
• 10 year warranty

This boat was designed with Solid Works Design software. Look at the Solid Works drawing with all the boat specs.

SW Drawing 19 inch dia self bailing whitewater raft
This is a drawing of a self bailing whitewater raft that is13 ft long raft, 70 inches wide, and 19 in dia tubes. The over all bow rise is 9 inches. There is 32 inches between the main tubes, and 3 foot thwarts.

Remember that we use PVC coated Polyester fabric for a ridged tube set up. We use quality inflatable fabric, and never use bladders and zippers. All air holding seams and attachment points are welded into place. This boat includes a 10 year warranty.

This raft is drawn in Solid Works design software. The software has a down loadable viewer called Edrawings. You may down load E drawings and then email me for a file that will allow you to get a closer look. if you like. Different sections of the raft are color coded so we can change the dimensions to fit individual needs. For instance, if the green section needed to be longer and have less overall up kick, we could adjust the drawing in an excel document to reflect the dimensional changes. This is the beauty of Solid Work Design software.

16.5 self bailing raft With 22 inch diameter tubes, 12 inch kick 90 inch over all width, 46 inches between the tubes,

When we make the larer diameter tubes, they stretch a bit. so the boat dimensions say 16.16 ft, but it actualy is 16.5, and so the main length is actually 115 inches. This is a massive cargo hauler, and Is owned by Scott Japhet, who works at River Sports in Durango Colorado. this boat made its debut on Cataract canyon last year at 40,000 cfs. That is a medium Nasty stage, when you compare that level to 80,000 we had this year. Scott told me It did really well in big water, and hauled a lot of gear. So if you are considering a big Selb bailer, give Scott a call at Riversports-1800 4 corner- and see what he has to say about the boat.

Here is the solid works drawing with the dimensions

SW Sectional view of 19 inch diameter self bailing whitewater raft
This is a sectional view of the 19 inch diameter self bailing whitewater raft. Note that the self bailing dropstitch floor is actually slightly wider than the main tubes. This keeps the floor tight, and keeps the boat from filling with too much water in a reversal. The floor is raised 2 inches higher than the main tubes. This design gives good tracking effect from the main tubes, and creates the best hull speed in the industry. Remember that we use PVC coated Polyester fabric for a ridged tube set up. We use quality inflatable fabric, and never use bladders and zippers. All air holding seams and attachment points are welded into place. This boat includes a 10 year warranty.

SW Drawing of 22 inch dia self bailing whitewater raft
This is a drawing of a self bailing whitewater raft that is 15 ft long raft, 84 inches wide, and 22 inch dia tubes. The over all bow rise is 12 inches.

Have a look at the end of the boat to see how we lift the floor up 2.5 inches. This feature gives the boat the best hull speed of any self bailer on the market and allows the raft to track in the current more effectively.

Custom self bailing white water raft designed by the customer
Dave B emailed us last winter about having us build a raft design that he had never seen before. He was very specific. He knew what he wanted, and this is what he asked for: A 15.5 ft long boat with a 78 inch wide beam. This boat would have an 8 inch kick in the front and come to a narrow front section of approximately 18 inches. In the back he wanted a 6 inch kick, a double layer of material for mounting a transom, and it had to be much wider in the rear for the motor, approximately 34 inches. We usually put 4 chambers in a boat. Dave wanted 6. On a boat this size we usually suggest 22 inch tubes; he wanted a smaller tube for less wind resistance, and a large drop stitch floor. On top of all that, we built mesh panels that fit existing frames he used to carry animals killed on hunting trips. He also asked us about how we may build a wind screen on the front for foul weather. The purple pocket in the model holds the flexible pole that makes up the back of the screen. He asked us to remove all 2 inch d rings and replace them with many more 1 inch d rings. We soon realized he was building his concept of the ultimate hunting raft. This computer model is what we came up with. Dave really knew what he wanted, and there are a few folks that do. If you are one of them, we can build a custom raft for you also. Have a look at the finished product on a trip in Alaska.

And there was lots of wildlife on the trip

When I ask Dave how the boat worked, this is what he said:
Jack, back from the big adventure. We floated/motored 240 air miles on a river in Northern Alaska. We saw thousands of Caribou, lots of Grizzlies, wolverine, wolfs and falcons. Never saw any sign of any other people the whole trip. Attached are a few pictures. Raft functioned absolutely perfectly. The only thing I would change would be to put a handle in the lower bow to help pull it on shore.

15 ft self bailing whitewater raft built for cargo and speed
Our new 15 ft self bailing raft has 22 inch diameter tubes, is 84 inches wide, and 15 ft long with a 12 inch kick on the front and the back. The self bailing floor is wedged in tightly under the main tubes. This gives a very smooth surface on the bottom. Yet with the main tubes 2 ½ inches lower than the floor, the boat tracks exceptionally well without drafting very much. Maximum flotation, minimum drag, and capacity for passengers, or gear, is how we see our self bailing raft designs. We use the highest quality PVC coated polyester fabrics. We weld on 2 inch stainless steel d ring patches. We pride ourselves on having the best customer service in the industry, and a 10 year warranty to boot.
